NUTN held “English Career Skills Workshop Series Lecture” to increase competitiveness in workplace

In order to carry out MOE Higher Education Sprout Project, Language Center (Office of International Affairs, NUTN) held two English career skills workshop series lectures, which are “How to Change the World with Football” on April 8th and “TOEIC Preparation Counseling” on April 13th, providing students with diverse English learning environment and enhancing students’ English ability, increasing competitiveness in future workplace.

Coach Lin Chia-sheng, was invited to the first lecture of English Career Skills Series, Coach Lin shared that as the first Taiwanese stepping into English Football League in 2004, and returning back to hometown Tainan in 2008, Coach Lin has been putting effort into promoting football culture in Taiwan since then, Coach Lin shared ups and downs experiences of overseas training, as well as giving specific advice about the career path for students who major in Physical Education and how to struggle alone overseas, Coach Lin encouraged students to seize every opportunities to study abroad, take a look at a different world.

Second lecture is subject to TOEIC preparation skills, inviting Professor Kuo Hsin-pin, who has years of experiences in tutoring TOEIC counseling class, to share preparation skills and essentials for TOEIC. Professor Kuo graduated from Business Administration graduate school, University of Dayton, State of Ohio, USA. Besides preparation skills for TOEIC, Professor Kuo also giving advice of how to using English to conduct proposal briefing, discuss cooperation, and negotiate. Professor Kuo encouraged students to develop professional English knowledge in business management as early as possible, and to get English proficiency related certificates in the studying stage, being fully prepared for future workplace.

Huang Yen-chang (Director of Language Center, Office of International Affairs, NUTN) indicated, experts from various fields were invited to this series of lectures to share the importance of English and skills for studying, guiding students to acknowledge that as the trend of internationalization continues, possessing English ability is required in every field. It is hoped that apart from learning in professional field, students should proactively improve English communication and expression in order to be more advantageous in the future workplace.

Hu Chia-sheng (Dean of International Affairs, NUTN) indicated, NUTN is a comprehensive University with Education, Literatures and Humanities, Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology, Arts, and Management, total of six academies. In the face of globalization wave, students from different fields are differ in the ways of preparation for future workplace and English ability, plus the government proposed “Blueprint for Developing into a Bilingual Nation by 2030”, it is hoped that through holding multilingual learning events, students could develop core competitiveness in the future workplace, and broaden global horizons.
