NUTN Drama Seminar with 200 People Together, "Talk and Gather in Groups"!


The Department of Drama Creation and Application of NUTN held the "2021 NUTN Drama Creation and Application Seminar", which was held on October 22-23. Although the whole process was conducted in the form of online conference to try to overcome the epidemic, the participants enthusiasm for drama research didn’t decrease, and nearly 200 scholars and drama lovers gathered together to exchange their enthusiasm.


The theme of this seminar was "Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Dialogue, Creative Blending and Social Participation". Professor Geng Yi-Wei, Drama Consultant of Weiwuying National Art Center, Ji Hui-Lin, Senior Performing Arts Commentator, Professor of Institute of Social Development of Shih Hsin University, Teacher Li Xiu-Xun of Shigang Mama Troupe, Professor Chen, Co-host of the Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Education Excellence Program of the Ministry of Education, and Qiao Se-Fen (Lin Shu-Ling), Art Director of Even Near Playback Theatre, were invited to attend. In addition, it had also provided a platform for scholars and postgraduates to publish their papers. A total of 15 papers were published this time, and the theme touched on the multi-dimensional theater aesthetics of different times and fields. The drama predecessors learned and teach from each other.


On the first day of the seminar, in the topic "Dialogue from the Perspective of Drama Aesthetics", Professor Lin, Professor Wang and Professor Cai from the Drama Department, as well as the guests attending the conference, Professor Geng and Teacher Ji, started a dialogue on drama aesthetics and applied drama creation methods, discussing the two creations of applied drama creators and critics, as well as the conflicts, contradictions and connections between creators and participants. In addition, through the viewpoint of using American ethnographic theater as research method and performance means, it reflected the present situation of applied theater in Taiwan Province. The five teachers exchanged ideas, and summarized the development prospects and difficulties of applied drama. They believed that applied drama should not be defined by the aesthetic framework of past dramas, but should be discussed through dialogue, so as to increase the publics understanding of applied drama aesthetics.


In the topic of "creative blending and social participation from the field and the community", Professor Li and Professor Lin from NUTN Drama Department, as well as Professor Xia and Teacher Li who attended the meeting, discussed drama as a practical case of empowerment, practice and initiative of new immigrants, and held that art and drama should be applied as a shortcut to public psychological empathy, and fermented the life stories and emotional experiences of new residents into collective action and initiative.


In the topic of "interdisciplinary drama", Professor Lin, Professor Zhang from the Department of Drama, as well as the guests present at the conference, Professor Chen and Teacher Qiao, shared their thoughts on the interdisciplinary drama. Practical experience of bilingual teaching, the trip to art museum, and the mental journey of going through the replay theater with special students through drama therapy. It was expected that the cross-domain research and practice of drama could expand and touch the ability of sharing experiences between individuals and groups, maintain the connection between people, inspire multiple intelligences and stimulate critical thinking. When cooperating with special students, the need of humanity always preceded the purpose of drama performance, so that education could truly be comprehensive, diverse and inclusive.
